Press Release
So. Star Wars Episode VII releases in 2015, with George as creative consultant. What do we want to see? The Thrawn trilogy/Heir to the Empire? The Vong War? What does this news mean for the Expanded Universe, does it all get tossed out of the window for the sake of the big $$$?

Lucas still has comic book, book, toys, and gaming rights. I cant imagine he would allow continuity to be destroyed. This will be a good thing as Star Wars will continue...

Are you sure about that? The Disney press release talks about increasingly monetising the Star Wars property through merchandise and games.

I saw a quote from them stating they will produce a new star wars movie every two to three years after this new trilogy...

And today there is more news on the future of Star Wars:
JJ Abrams to direct Episode VII So. What does everyone think of that? He managed to successfully revive Star Trek with a second film due out this summer, but will he be successful with Star Wars?

Cautiously happy.
Abrams is well known for alternate realities and time travel, so I'm going to reserve my opinion until the movie is released. I'd like to think that it'll continue with the same universe instead of resetting it or having someone travel forward or back in time. On a bright note, however, he also keeps things "close to the chest" in terms of production; meaning the first time you see the film won't have been ruined by endless pre-release plot giveaways. And on a second bright note, his TV and films are always well made and fun to watch regardless what it's about.
